OUR STORY
All American Grain LLC is a family business providing corn storage and transloading for the local feed yard business and Intermodal logistics export service to the Imperial County, California.
We’ve been providing logistic services since 2004, bringing corn from the Midwest to the Imperial Valley, California, via unit trains of approximately 110 cars. Our inception traces back to 2003 when the Union Pacific Railroad agree to provide a unit train program to Calipatria and two local business created a joint venture to create All American Grain LLC.
The model works by loading hopper cars in the mid-west in states such as Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas and sent those unit trains to Calipatria, the transit time is normal 3-5 days but depends on multiple factors. Once the trains arrive in Calipatria they are unload in 10-12 hours and return it back to the mid-west to be refilled and returned to California. Prior to unit trains manifest trains were used for the transport of corn from the mid-west to Calipatria using sidings off the mainline to unload the hoppers and transport to the local customers. The creation of All American Grain helped to reduce the logistics involved and eliminated complexity in transporting corn to the local customers in Imperial Valley.
As the business grew, it was decided to build a 4th storage silo to insure that there was enough stock to cover any supply chain interruption which could be caused by weather, or for other reasons which would delay the trains enroute to Calipatria. This additional storage insures that we have sufficient storage to balance most supply chain interruptions.
In addition to the corn storage and transloading business in 2017 we decided to provide intermodal logistics services to the Imperial Valley export businesses. We initially decided to run a 6 month trial and due to the success of this trial it was decided to continue and it because a permanent part of the business and we decided to expand the customer base and provide freight forwarding services through our partner Kuehne and Nagle.
This expansion would allow exporters and hay buyers be able to source and export forage crops from the Imperial Valley and ship via rail through the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach to Japan, China, Taiwan, Korea, and the Middle East. This service has since expanded to serve Singapore, Malaysia, and India as new markets develop
As the volume and demand increased, we invested in our facility along with our partners in the Union Pacific and designed and built an 11,000-foot track. The track can cater for unit trains up to 160 cars or 320 containers. Along with this, we have invested in an overpass and an all-weather container yard which allows us to work in 95% of all the weather conditions experienced in Calipatria bringing flexibility to our customers and allowing us to operate in the safest environment possible.
